Resin-bound and resin-bonded surfacing are often confused, yet they are not the same product. In a resin-bound system, clean dried aggregate is thoroughly mixed with resin before it is hand-trowelled onto a prepared base. Every stone is coated and locked into a smooth, seamless surface.
Why resin bound is normally chosen for homes
A correctly specified resin-bound surface is attractive, durable and permeable. Water can drain through the surface and into a suitable porous base below. It also avoids the loose-stone appearance associated with resin-bonded systems.
How resin bonded is different
With resin-bonded surfacing, resin is spread onto a solid base and loose aggregate is scattered over the top. It creates a rougher finish that resembles loose gravel, but it is generally not permeable and some aggregate can work loose over time.
Ask what is being installed
Before accepting a quotation, ask the installer to confirm whether the specification is resin bound or resin bonded, what base will be used and how drainage will be handled. Glidestone Resin installs resin-bound surfaces designed around the property and the condition of the existing ground.
