Existing tarmac can provide a suitable base for resin-bound surfacing when it is stable, correctly laid and free from significant movement. Overlaying can reduce excavation, disruption and waste, but it is not appropriate for every property.
What we check
The survey should consider cracking, soft areas, contamination, levels, drainage falls and the condition of the edges. Any weakness beneath the resin will remain a weakness after the decorative surface is installed.
When excavation is the better choice
If the tarmac is badly broken, has moved, lacks an adequate sub-base or creates unsuitable finished levels, removing it and rebuilding the base is normally the more reliable approach.
Glidestone Resin will explain whether an overlay is sensible rather than recommending it simply because it is quicker.
